“Let us not try to waste organs” was the sentiment that brought together leading hospitals in Chennai to start the “Initiative for Organ Sharing Group”(IOSG). The first meeting was held in December 1999 under the auspices of MOHAN Foundation. The following hospitals are part of the IOSG:  Apollo Hospitals, Madras Medical Mission, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institution, Sundaram Medical Foundation and Christian Medical College, Vellore. MOHAN Foundation facilitates the activities of the ISOG as it has been working towards promoting organ donation for the past three years and has established its credibility in the mind of the public. The group is now seven months old and organs have been shared amongst the various hospitals to ensure that no organ donated is ever wasted. It is this spirit of sharing that is required to carry the transplant programme in India forward.
