For a revolution to happen many technologies help to evolve simultaneously and peak at the same time. We are on the fringe of such a revolution in the field of transplantation. The chemical book of life comprises of 3.2 billion characters arranged in different combination as Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine and Thymine. On the 26th of  June, 99% of human genes were deciphered. This important milestone would not have been possible but for the information technology revolution and is perhaps the biggest milestone since the invention of the wheel.

The happening from the genome projects is likely to have far reaching impact on all the different fields of life sciences. The advancements in the fields of Biotechnology, immunology and xeno-transplant may help the ‘stem cell researchers’ to produce organs in laboratory. Cloning is already in advanced stages. However, our society may not be able to keep pace with the advances in these technologies. So far the society has embraced all new revolution with enthusiasm. But in future this may not be the case. Revolutions may be left in incubation period for much longer than necessary till the society’s mindset is ready to accept the changes that could be too far reaching.

Perhaps a decade from now our organ failure patients could have a replacement grown either in their own bodies or outside and have no necessity to depend on immunosuppression. The research on immunology of tolerance is also advancing towards similar goal.
