This issue of the “Indian Transplant Newsletter” is special because it covers an event called “The Memorial Service” organised by MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) for cadaver organ donor families in Chennai on October 31st, 1999. Over 60 family members attended this very moving function. Many families and members of public broke down during the function. Every city in the country undertaking cadaver transplant programme should undertake this event perhaps once a year. This will not only create awareness about organ donation but also give transparency to the programme and give the donor families a chance to share the experiences.

It is paramount to understand the feeling of the donor families after organ donation and for the society to recognise their supreme act. While it is impossible to get over the tragedy of losing a loved one, sharing the experience with others who have also gone through similar pains and knowing that many lives have been saved due to this holy gift, perhaps give some solace to the family members come to terms with the tragedy.
