In everyone’s life, there is a moment of greatest influence.  Participating in VIII All India Transplant Games was such a  incident in my life after my kidney transplant surgery.

After the surgery, based on the advice from the doctor and others, my family members became extra cautious and would not allow me to strain myself doing work around the house, so I did almost nothing. The evening walk was the most significant part of my life. My mother or mother in law used to stay with us to help me out. Due to this I did not feel my normal self and the feeling of sickness haunted me continuously.

I gave acceptance, to participate in the transplant games half-heartedly when my doctor asked me to take part in it. But After practicing, I realized that it was the best decision that I have taken.

Seeing so many people who underwent transplant operations actively participating,  sent my confidence level shooting up. I too took part in three events, sent my confidence level shooting up. I too took part in 3 events.

  1. 400 mt walk - 3rd prize
  2. 100 mt sprint - 4th place
  3. 50 mt sprint - fell down in the middle and got injured.

I would have been very scared, if I had got injured in some other accident.  But after seeing the people around me and their confidence, excitement filled my mind and i did not feel afraid of injury, although it was moderately big.

The other side of the success of participating in this event was from my family end. After seeing my new confidence levels family members also started allowing me to  take part in regular work.

Now, nine months after transplantation I am very happy to say  that I am doing  all my household work on my own and the  happiest thing as a mother is looking after my 6 year old daughter and her the needs on my own. My usual way of working at home is to do my work while listening to music and dancing. Again, nine months after transplantation and by participating in the transplant games, I started doing my work in the same ws as before.

After the transplantation, I found myself obese. But after seeing the ,any participants at the transplant games, I am confident now that one day I too would become slim as earlier by doing some workout.

I would like to thank MOHAN FOUNDATION for organising the transplant games, which built my confidence, and I wish the same with all the new participants.

Ms Rama

'Never discourage anyone ...who continuously makes progress, no matter how slow'... says Plato. These words were put in action on December 13 and 14, 2003 at Rajratnam Stadium, Chennai where the VIII All India & SAARC Transplant Games were hosted by MOHAN and TANKER Foundation. I was present on both days and actively participated  in the vent s and also  was a spectator  of the spectacular show.  The sports events consisted of a lot of indoor games and track games filled with fun and frolic.  For a transplant patient, it was yet another place, to prove to the world, their equality with the rest. They exhibited enormous zeal in participation, courage and a fierce competitive spirit. It was not only a sports event but also a place where a lot l of patients with their similar heroic battles converged at a single point. The way these people live give us a lot of encouragement to do even better. It was a place to make new contact and now we have to maintain them.  Also, there was a team of highly encouraging doctors cheering us in the games and other young college students doing their bit. The cultural evening was filled with splendor with Kuchipudi exponent, a transplant patient himself, proving his skills in dancing, while he could not participate in the games. It was an evening which gave us a chance to discover the multi faceted  talent of the  participants. And so friends the dictum…..
