The epicenter of kidney trade seems to have moved  to Punjab with cases of  kidneys  being bought  and sold coming  to light in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

In Amritsar and Jalandhar, the police produced the alleged victims and arrested some touts involved in the racket. Doctors in both places denied their involvement. In Ludhiana, some arrests were made as well, but the accused, Amritpal Singh, who operated from a prestigious hospital in the city, is yet to be nabbed.

The latest case of kidney trade is from Ludhiana and hopefully it will help the police to bring the masterminds of this racket to book. The case is that of a labourer Ashok Kumar and his story is age old one – promises of a job, being given sleep inducing drugs and on regaining consciousness finding out that is kidney had been removed,  Apparently he was offered some money , but he refused. Ashok Kumar has lodged a complaint with the Simla Puri Police station against Pankaj Kumar of Haibowal, Ludhiana, Mahar Singh and an unidentified doctor from Jalandhar. The three have been booked under the THO Act 1994 and under Sections 420, 326 and 34 of the IPC. No arrests have been made so far but one hopes that justice will be done and that it will act as a deterrent to those involved in the kidney sales racket.
