Actor Sarathkumar, Host of the popular television Tamil quiz show” Koteeswaran”came out of the tube to be in direct touch with the people in January this year as part of “Organ Donation Week”. The campaign was organized by Madras Medical Mission ,Chennai and Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai. Addressing about 5000 students of the school, the actor spoke about the need for organ donation, a concept yet to firmly take root in our country .Mr.V.Muthuramalingam, Chairman, Velammal Group, pledged to donate his organs on the occasion and the students said that they would aim to register 10,000 donors.

Also on December 24,2000 eight NCC cadets of Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School-T.Srinivasan, Abishek.R.Balaji, R.Prasanth, B.Harishkumar, A.Gokul, M.Kirupakaran, K.Kamalprasanth and S.Rajbharath –set off on a bicycle tour to Madurai to create awareness among the public about organ donation .They were accompanied by NCC officer. Erasumuruganandhan and Mr.V.M.Velmohan, Correspondent of the school .The tour was flagged off by P.Kalimuthu, Police Commissioner .The tour distance to Madurai is 490 kilometers .The students carried 30,000 pamphlets for distribution along the way.
