ROTTO-SOTTO, West, and Maharashtra conducted a two-day advanced training program for Transplant Coordinators on  February 3 and 4, 2025 at the KEM Hospital, Parel, Mumbai.

A total of 33 participants each with a minimum of three years of experience in transplant coordination, participated in this training. The program aimed to facilitate discussions on ground-level realities and emphasize the adoption of new concepts in the field.

The training included sessions on the role of transplant coordinators and ground realities, followed by an interactive discussion on the importance of ICU counselling and rapport building. The role of coordinators in mainstreaming cornea, skin, and tissue donation as a routine hospital activity was also discussed in detail.

Additionally, dedicated sessions were held to promote hand donations, focussing on effective counselling techniques. The procedures for deceased and live donations involving foreign nationals were shared, and experienced coordinators presented case scenarios on these topics.

The protocols involved in donation after circulatory death (DCD) was provided, helping participants understand the entire process. A session on compliance with required data by NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO was also held. The training concluded with a panel discussion on challenges in increasing deceased donations.
