The Karnataka government is in the process of implementing the practice of honouring deceased organ donors and their families, aiming to promote the noble cause of organ donation. This initiative follows Tamil Nadu's announcement of the scheme in September 2023.

According to the State Health Minister of Karnataka, Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao, "The state government has chosen to acknowledge and show appreciation to the families and individuals for their altruistic act.” The Health Minister outlined that these actions mark the initial steps in a larger strategy to raise awareness and encourage participation in organ donation.

According to the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), with 178 organ donors Karnataka ranked second in organ donation in the country in 2023, following Telangana with 200 organ donors.
