13th Indian Organ Donation Day (IODD) was observed on August 3, 2023 by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

 

The aims of this year's campaign “Angdaan Mahotsav” were:

  • ● Promoting healthy lifestyles and wellness to reduce the need for organ transplantation
  • ● Raising awareness on brain stem death, deceased organ donation
  • ● Debunking myths and misconceptions related to organ donation and transplantation
  • ● Encouraging hospitals to expand their deceased donation programme

 

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, expressed that there cannot be a greater service to humanity than giving life to another person. The event aimed at felicitating deceased donor families for their brave decision of donating organs of their loved ones, spreading awareness on deceased organ donation and recognizing the contribution of medical professionals working in the field of organ donation and transplantation by awarding them.

 

Multiple awards were given out during the occasion - Best SOTTO, Best ROTTO, State with highest deceased donors, Best Transplant Coordinator, Best NTORC, Best NGO, Lifetime Achievement award to a transplant professional
