Valentine’s Day has showcased many examples of couples celebrating love. One such was from Avinash Shekar and Pavithra Vani, the two kidney transplant recipients who tied the knot on February 14, 2022 in Bengaluru. Avinash Shekar and Pavithra Vani, both aged 30 knew each other from the time they were treated for their renal problems at a private hospital. However, their friendship grew into love when they started working in the same tech park.

While Avinash Shekar received his transplant twice from his relatives, Pavithra Vani’s transplant was from a deceased donor. Avinash Shekar’s first transplant was from his mother, but it was unsuccessful. His second transplant was in 2015, with his aunt being the donor for him. Avinash’s father was also a kidney donor who donated his kidney to his brother-in-law, 32 years ago.

“There is still not much awareness about organ donation and there is fear associated with it too. If others see people like us, they can understand that there is life beyond organ failure and awareness about organ donation will spread,” said the groom.
