First Muslim Body Donor in Assam

The Ellora Vigyan Mancha (EVM), is a voluntary organization, which is doing exemplary work in creating awareness about body and organ donation in Assam. Mr. Isfaqur Rahman, EVM's convener, is the husband of Ellora Roy Choudhury, who was the first woman from the north-east to have donated her body for medical research.

“… on Sunday, 15 May 2011, EVM facilitated a “first of its kind” donation – it was a body donation by a person belonging to the Muslim community in Assam. Nizamuddin Khan, former Communist Party of India (Marxist) legislator, died of cancer and his family members donated his body to GMCH for medical research, as per his wishes. …”
