Youngest Double Lung transplant recipient

Aseven year old, Laura Guzman of Chicago, USA, became the Chicago area's youngest double lung transplant recipient on August 9, 1999. It also marked the first double lung transplant at childrem's memorial hospital, Chicago. Constantine Mavroudis, MD, head of the lung transplantation programme said that paediatric patients previously had to travel out of the area for therapy. Laura had acute myelocytic leukemia from the age of one, and afterward, developed bronchiectasis. she has had a tracheostomy most of her life. Laura was discharged from the hospital about a month after the transplant.
