Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India presented the Shanmukhananda Ruby Jubilee Health Care Award to Mrs. Malathi Venkatesan, Trustee MOHAN Foundation and TANKER Foundation, on 23rd March 2015 in Mumbai. The occasion was the Ruby celebrations (40 years’ completion) of Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai and the theme was “Celebrating Life”. Smt. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson – State Bank of India was the Guest of Honour.

Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai has over the past six decades played a unique role in the national integration and cultural synthesis of India. The sabha is the only institution in the country and possibly in the world that combines Fine Arts and Health care. The founders believe that community health has a major role to play in appreciating the finer aspects of art and culture.

The success of community health care revolves around five key players and awards were given to distinguished persons serving humanity through health care in these categories:

1.         The Doctors

2.         The Nurses

3.         The Patient

4.         NGOs in the field of Health care

5.         Public Institutions under State’s control who support the goals of “Health for All”

Mrs. Malathi Venkatesan is a patient who is bravely fighting kidney disease with will power and determination and also helping others patients with the same problem. And that was the reason she was rightly chosen in the category of ‘Award to a patient’. The Award comprised a citation, a brass lamp and Rs. one lakh. Dr. Georgi Abraham, Founder Trustee, TANKER Foundation and Trustee, MOHAN Foundation was given the Award for helping the community through his work in TANKER Foundation.
