Daniel Garcia, 25, suffered serious head injuries when he was hit by a car in October 2014. He died a couple of days later with his mother, Julie Bryon-Edmond at his hospital bedside. He is the brother of Britain’s youngest liver-transplant survivor, but he is a “Superhero” because he saved six other lives by donating his organs.

Daniel’s half-sister Lottie Bryon-Edmond, three, was five weeks old when pioneering surgery saved her life. A living donor had come forward to save her. Lottie was given hours to live after being born with the rare condition neonatal haemochromatosis, which meant toxic levels of iron built up in her liver. She went to the top of the UK organ register and a national appeal for donors was launched. She had surgery at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in August 2011.

Daniel’s mother said her son had signed on the organ donor register “on the day Lottie had her transplant”. She added, “He had expressed his organ donation wishes to me and the family, and in his always-giving way he will have given the gift of life to six people. He’s the brightest star in the sky. He was very free spirited and touched the lives of so many people. He was the guy in the room who made everybody laugh.”

Friend Tim Gallagher, who spent three months teaching in India with Daniel after they left school in 2008, wrote: “Dan was a deeply empathetic, sensitive guy who you could really talk to about the things that mattered, and at the same time was bursting with fun and energy.
