Cadaver Transplantation Workshop Held

A cadaver transplantation workshop was held on August 12, 1999 as part of ASUCON’99 at Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institution, Chennai. The workshop covered a wide range of topics and was of interest not only to those already involved in cadaver transplantation but also to those planning to start a cadaver transplantation programme in their institution. Some of the topics that were covered included the Transplantation of Human Organ Act (Dr. Sumana Sundaram, Chennai), Maintenance of Brain Death Patients (Dr. Sunil Shroff, Chennai), Multi organ retrieval (Dr. Philip Thomas, Bangalore), Kidney Alone Retrieval (Dr. Rajan Ramanathan, Chennai), Bench dissection (Dr. Duraisamy, Chennai), Perfusion fluids (Dr. Neelamegam, Chennai), Storage and transport of organs (Dr. Mohan, Bangalore), setting up an organ procurement organization in your Area (Mrs. Rebecca Thomas, Bangalore). The workshop discussed the fundamentals of the various legal, surgical and social aspects of cadaver organ donation programme. 58 Urologists from South India attended the workshop. The workshop was jointly organized by the Department of Urology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institution and MOHAN Foundation, Chennai.
