Smt. Kalpana Tiwari, 41, was a housewife with high ideals and motives to serve the society.  Kalpana complained of chest pain and fell unconscious on the night of 28th June 2013 and was rushed to Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad. She was resuscitated and put on a ventilator by the emergency care doctors.

On the morning of 1st July 2013, the doctors pronounced Kalpana “brain dead”. Her husband, Sri Manoj Tiwari then recollected her mentioning that she would like her organs to be donated should something untoward happen to her. In a strange twist of fate, on 8th February 2013, Kalpana had attended a “Prarthana Sabha” (Prayer Meeting) of late Sri Purushottam Malani, deceased organ donor. At the meeting, Smt. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of MOHAN Foundation, spoke about the essence of organ donation, and how Sri Malani’s family had helped save seven lives by donating his organs.  Kalpana went back home and told her husband that she would like her organs to be donated should something happen to her. Kalpana’s kidneys, liver, heart valves and eyes were donated as per her wishes.
