The 24 International Congress of The Transplantation Society took place in the German city of Berlin from the 15th of July to 19th July 2012. The 24th Congress saw a gathering of physicians, surgeons, scientists and organ procurement personnel, who are interested in clinical and research aspects of solid organ, cell and tissue transplantation. The programme was aimed at developing and to encourage the exchange of new scientific and clinical information, and support an interchange of opinions regarding care and management issues, as well as socioeconomic, ethical and regulatory issues relevant to transplantation.

In addition to the classical types of scientific sessions including plenary sessions, symposia, workshops and poster presentations, the congress also offered new types of scientific sessions within the Forum Futurum focusing on Intensive Care, Imaging and Tailored Pharmacotherapy. All this were designed to develop a highly interactive forum to discuss cutting-edge science in this field.

The Medawar Prize, 2012 was awarded to University of Minnesota transplant surgeon David E. R. Sutherland, M.D., Ph.D at the 24th Congress. The award is considered the world's highest recognition for contributions to the field of transplantation. Dr. Sutherland, a professor of surgery and director of the University's Schulze Diabetes Institute, performed the world's first living donor partial pancreas transplant at the University of Minnesota in 1979. Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation was also present at the 24th International Congress of the Transplantation Society.
