Master T.S.Sanjai, 15, was a bright and talented boy studying in class X in a School in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. He was an NCC cadet and also had a black belt in Karate. But a terrible tragedy occurred on 6th April 2012; Sanjai sustained a severe head injury in a road accident. He wa rushed to a local hospital for first aid and later shifted to Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), Coimbatore. Despite the best efforts of the doctors to save his life, Sanjai became brain dead the next day. The parents were informed about their son's condition. Even in the midst of this heartbreaking news, the family remembered Sanjai's positive inclination towards eye donation expressed a year ago on his birthday-October 22nd. Sanjai's parents, Mr.Suresh Kumar and Mrs.Kavitha informed the Doctor about their wish to donate their son's organs and honour his sentiments towards donation.

At this point, Mr.Chiristopher Asir, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation was contacted to provide assistance in coordinating the process. He explained the procedure involved in organ donation to the family. After the necessary clearances were obtained, Sanjai's eyes, liver, kidneys and heart valves were retrieved to give a new lease of life to many patients.

Editor's note:

Following the organ donation, Mr.Pratap Gokuldas, Honorary Director, MOHAN Foundation, Coimbatore received a mail from Sanjai's uncle, Mr.Abinash Ramanathan, Expressing his appreciation for Christopher's role in falicitating the process. The mail is reproduced below:

Subject: Organ Donation

Hi Mr.Pratap,

This is with reference to the Organ Donation on Master T.S.Sanjai from Tiruppur in KMCH hospital. I am Sanjai's uncle. I would like to really appreciate your work towards this initiative. I would also like to specially thank Christopher for his help in getting things done at a much faster pace. His dedication, untiring & compassionate approach really helped in falicitating the various steps easier without too much delay. He was very empathetic & understood the feelings of the family in this situation.

Though we could not still get over the loss of our son but cn least take satisfaction from the fact that he has helped 7 people through his organs & ultimately 7 family members are benefitted from this deed. Without Christopher & your Foundation this would not have been possible in such a short time. Thank you very much for all your help.  i would really appreciate the work that your Foundation has been doing & I am willing to extend whatever support is possible in order to create awareness amongst the people.

Thanks & Regards,

Abinash
