A 3-year-old girl, who underwent a liver transplant surgery when she was nine months old, has fully recovered from the operation. Ellie-Mae Wolfenden, from Cheshire, United Kingdom, was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer in 2009. She underwent chemotherapy while waiting for a matching donor. Two months after being put on the waiting list, she underwent the transplant surgery at St James' Hospital in Leeds after being given half of a 37-year-old man's liver. Ellie-Mae's mother, Karen and father Carl said they give Ellie-Mae an extra birthday on October 14 to mark the operation, which gave her a “second life”.
