Kishore Kumar and Hymavathi are an example of exemplary courage and generosity. They donated the eyes and heart valves of their four-day-old infant daughter after she passed away. The baby was premature and developed complications two days after birth. In spite of being put on a ventilator, the baby died shortly thereafter.

Mr. Kumar said, “We failed to save our first child. And that’s why we thought of helping children whose lives are in danger because of failing organs.” Mr. Kumar said that the decision to donate the organs was a collective one. After the infant died, close relatives took the initiative and contacted MOHAN Foundation. The parents were counselled about organ donation and consented to donate the organs. Mr. K. Raghuram, CEO of MOHAN Foundation, said that obtaining heart valves from baby donors was very difficult and rare. He added that commercially available valves were very costly and had to be imported.
