Sqn Ldr (Dr). Ravi Wankhede made an altruistic kidney donation to his friend. The president of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil invited and felicitated them at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2010. Dr. Wankhede is now Hon. Director MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur and Secretary ZTCC Nagpur.  

I am a medical doctor from Nagpur. On 26th June 2009, I donated my kidney to a dear friend of mine Mr. Salim Chimthanawaka at Nagpur. The operation was a success. The event attracted a lot of print and electronic media coverage as a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. Frankly it never struck me that I was doing it for any other motive than to help a friend.

The event was read by the Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil, who invited us to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and felicitated us on 26th Feb 2010.

I am in the field of blood banking. However after this donation, a lot of people want me to take the lead in spreading awareness on organ donation (related, unrelated and cadaveric). After having seen the MOHAN Foundation website I feel like associating with your organisation and doing the same for Central India, Nagpur being the central-most place in the country.
