Kartika, all of nine years, was the favourite child of the whole of Dabilpura, a village in Ranga Reddy district, Andhra Pradesh. And now in her death, she will remain etched in the memory of everyone who lives there for she is an organ donor.

It was October 2008, Kartika was getting ready for her school when she collapsed abruptly and the world turned upside down for her parents, A. Malla Reddy and Manasa.

Kartika was declared brain dead (the cause being a brain tumour) at Yashoda Hospital, Hyderabad. Her brave father took the decision to contact MOHAN Foundation for organ donation. After counseling the family, the eyes, kidneys and liver were retrieved at Global Hospitals.

“Kartika was the favourite for everyone in Dabilpura. To be frank, the village has lost its favourite daughter. However, Kartika’s memories in the form of eyes, kidneys and liver will hopefully give a new lease of life to someone else,” said Mr. Malla Reddy’s eldest brother, A. Sriram Reddy.

T. Prashanth Reddy, 19, was involved in a road traffic accident in Hyderabad and was declared brain dead. It was the auspicious day of the festival of lights, Diwali, and his amazingly courageous family decided to light up the life of others in need by donating his kidneys, liver and eyes.
