Families who consent to organ donation in the event of brain death of their loved ones show exemplary courage in the face of  tragedy. G. Salaija's family is one such family. Sailaja,20, was brought to Kamineni Hospital, Hyderabad, on May 20, 2007 in a comatose state. Investigation revealed that she’d had a massive brain haemorrhage and that led to brain death. Her family agreed  to donate her organs and thus helped five people get a new lease of life. One kidney was transplanted at Kamineni Hospital to a 32-year-old man and the other kidney was transplanted to a patient at CARE Hospital. The liver transplantation was performed at Global Hospitals while the corneas were utilised at L.V.Prasad Eye Institute. Applauding Sailaja’s family, Dr. Dilnawaz Bhiladvala, neurosurgeon, and T.K. Saha, nephrologist, reiterated the need to create greater awareness about organ donation.
