Simultaneous stem cell Transplant of help in multiple   Myeloma

 Researcher at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre in Seattle USA presented the result of a pilot study involving 41 patients with multiple myeloma at the annual meeting of the American society of Haematology held in December 2001 in Florid. In the first they utilized autologous hematopoietic stem cell from HLA – Matched Siblings. The patients ranged in age from 29 to 71 years (Average age 52) ; 73% had stage III disease 25 of the patients were associated with a complete response and 11 with a partial response further a subset, 10 had complete responses and 6 had partial responses. At 1 year survival was 85% the rate of progression - -free survival was 83% and treatment related mortality was 12%.
