Picture perfect

            “A picture is worth a thousand words” – this was brought home beautifully by a group of young heart and minds working harmoniously with their hands to create, what else but the perfect pictures of why and how one can become an organ donor. Organised by a very enthusiastic group of Rotaractors from the Rotary Club, A.C.Tech Anna University in association with MOHAN Foundation, in March this year, this painting competition with its theme of “Organ Donation” challenged the minds of the school children from various educational institutions in Chennai. They rose to the challenge, and how!

            The painting competition was preceded by a brief talk to familiarize the children with the concept of organ donation. Most of them were familiar with blood donation and eye donation. What was remarkable was the open-mindedness and eagerness that these children showed to learn more about something that could affect their lives. Even more remarkable was the clarity with which they these expressed those thoughts on paper. There were close to 50 entries and yes, it was a hard job picking out winners because all of them in our eyes were winners for addressing an issue like “ Organ Donation” – an issue that few people have addressed in so unique a manner here

            MOHAN Foundation plans to hold such painting and poster competitions regularly for schools and colleges to encourage the thought of organ donation among the young. The Rotaractors of the Rotary Club A.C. Tech, Anna University ( Ashok Balaji, Shivnath Venkateshwaran, Prakash and all of the rest) and the school children of Chennai have shown what young people can do when they set their minds to it.
