Alonzo mourning ,33- year -old basketball star in the U.S.A.,was not sure that he would be able to win this game, not without some extraordinary help. His adversary –kidney disease ,focal gloerulosclerosis, requiring him to have a kidney transplant;his saviour –his cousin,30-year-old Jason cooper ,whom he had not seen in 25 years.cooper learnt about mourning’s health situation ,when he made a trip to Virginia ,because his aunt, who is mourning’s grandmother ,was dying and he wanted to pray with the family .cooper then told mourning’s father,’i’m ‘o’ positive ,if there’s something i can do,please contact me .’’when mourning called two weeks later, after his grandmother died ,cooper told him that he would met him at the hospital .it is cooper’s belief that ‘’mourning underwent a successful kidney transplant in december2002 at the Columbia university medical center.in this hospital room ,mourning drew courage from reading the autobiography of lance Armstrong who has won the gruelling tour de france, five times, since surviving cancer .As a bookmark he used a letter from molly somberg ,a 17-year-old student, from new jersey who wrote that her grandmother died of kidney disease and that her mother had the same disease and was waiting for atransplant.after reading the letter aloud mourning issued an impassioned plea for organ donation.he said that he realised what a blessing it was that he’d had such a short wait for his kidney transplant while there were so many people who had been waiting for months without a donor.
