Yet another allegation of a kidney being stolen. The doctors were arrested and put in jail. The Indian Medical Association reiterated that it was impossible to remove a kidney without the person’s knowledge, keeping in mind the number of tests that have to be done prior to surgery. The fact remains that, in spite of the THOA, the trade in kidneys continues. The plight of the donor pathetic, but with the doctors in jail, the recipients end up in an equally pathetic state. The post – operative care and follow up of a kidney transplant recipient is very important. With their own doctors jailed and other doctors hesitant to treat them for fear of being tarred with the same brush, the lives of the recipients also end up on the line. There are no winners in this horrific game.
