3rd August to be Observed as Heart Transplant Day in India

Heartwarming news indeed! August 3rd has been declared Heart Transplantation Day by the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He announced this at a function held at his Race Course Road residence to mark the first heart transplant carried out nine years ago at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He also said that Organ Retrieval Banking Organisation at AIIIMS would now be a national facility. He added that the two decisions would go a long way in promoting heart transplantation in the country.
